Dyeing the Natural Way
Join the F.H. King Students for Sustainable Agriculture and the Horticulture Club for a workshop on dyeing fabric with natural dyes. Madeline Wimmer will educate us on the science, history and how-to’s of natural dyes and the dyeing process.
Madeline Wimmer is a UW graduate student who studies cold climate viticulture in the Department of Horticulture. Perhaps it has something to do with her father being a graphic artist and mural painter, but Madeline has always been inspired to pursue the integration of art and science through different outlets involving movement, audio and visual art. Natural dyes include a lot of plant matter, so she had a natural affinity for this art.
Participants will have the opportunity to dye and take home a handkerchief using natural dyes like red or yellow onion skins, or Wisconsin-grown grapes. Space is limited, so it’s first come, first served. Can’t wait to see you there!
