The Edge of Extinction: Travels with Enduring People in Vanishing Lands

Author event featuring Jules Pretty
Professor of Environment and Society, University of Essex
In The Edge of Extinction, Jules Pretty explores life and change in a dozen environments and cultures across the world, taking us on a series of remarkable journeys to show that there are many different ways to live in cooperation with nature. From these accounts of people living close to the land and close to the edge emerge a larger story about sustainability and the future of the planet.
Hailing from eastern England, Jules Pretty writes on the importance and relevance of nature for people. He was awarded an OBE in 2006 for services to sustainable agriculture. At this author event, he will read from The Edge of Extinction, followed by a book signing.
This event is possible thanks to the generous support of the Lectures Committee General Fund and the UW-Madison Agroecology Program, Agronomy Department and Soil Science Department.
